I started this morning by waking up later than I wanted. In fact, I woke up holding my alarm clock so at some point I just turned off my alarm and held it tightly. A little cuddle time, I guess. Then Mark and I had decided to work on the budget this morning since we were too tired to do it last night. And I couldn't find our budget notebook. It's nowhere to be found. We did work on the budget, but with Ethan sitting in a chair between us telling us how to get to Mrs. Rachel's house and Aaron bringing us book after book to read. Hopefully, all the bills will get paid that need to be paid this week!
Then as I was changing Aaron's diaper, I noticed poop was leaking out the top which got all over the carpet in his room. Lovely.
After lunch and the massive rain we had, things seem to be getting back to normal. Aaron was sound asleep in his crib and Ethan was half-asleep on the couch. I thought I would get a few moments to myself to get things done around the house. Then the doorbell rang....it was the man coming to measure for new carpet. So much for naps. Ethan jumped off the couch and grabbed his measuring tape to "help" and Aaron was startled awake by a strange man measuring his room. Neither would go back to sleep. Trust me, I tried.
As the boys were playing together in Ethan's room, I was cleaning out my bathroom and trying to get it back in order since we just painted it. Ethan came running in the room and told me Aaron was poopy. So I went to get him to change his diaper and what did I find? Poop spots all over Ethan's floor where Aaron's diaper leaked yet again. Thank goodness we are getting new carpet soon! Not just new carpet, but carpet that is darker and stain resistant! (Have you ever tried to clean something out of 30 year old carpet???)
So as you can see, today has been one of those days. And I admit, I haven't had the best attitude throughout the day. But then I read this verse and it really hit home. After all, my boys are watching closely to see how I respond to situations. They are listening and watching carefully. What kind of example do I want to set?
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16
Update: This evening when our family gathered together for our story time, Aaron sat on my lap. When he got up, there was poop all over Aaron's backside and all over the front of my sweatshirt. We have literally had a poopy day. :)
